Apple achieved a huge milestone yesterday, announcing that they have now sold more than 5 billion songs through their music program iTunes.
iTunes has also been crowed as the "Number 1 U.S. music retailer" by research firm NPD Group – selling even more music than huge American stores like Walmart and KMart.
Apple have also said that iTunes is renting and selling movies at the rate of around 50,000 each day which makes it the world's most popular online video store.
Users of Apple TV in the states are able to download and rent their movies very easily and then watch them on their big LCD screen – where as Australian users are currently being forced to either open up American accounts to access the content, or just wait until the content comes to Australia – hopefully later this year.
That all means that Apple has everything entertainment in the bag – music, video-clips and movies. Nothing stopping them now!
Most of the big distributors are also on board and supplying more and more content to Apple. There are a few who are holding out, but the temptation to expose their content to the masses of people who regularly use iTunes and Apple TV every day – is becoming over whelming.
Apple also has plans for AppStore – which will add Software and Games to their wares. In the age of downloading on demand and high street stores that are always "out of stock" – Apple are on their way to unimaginable success.
