The Australian Web Industry Association’s (AWIA) yearly AGM is coming up next month on the 6th August and they are calling for nominations for the committee re-election.

The folks over at ITNews wrote a good wrapupo of the Google Developers Day held in Sydney.
Google shone a spotlight on open standards and open source development at its Developer Day in Sydney today.
The event, which took place at Wharf 8, brought together more than 650 Web developers from all around Australia.
“Developer Day 2008 has showcased the tremendous potential for Australia and Australian developers,” said Alan Noble, Google’s Head of Engineering for Australia and New Zealand, in a statement.
“Developers and Googlers took hold of the notion that the web itself is truly the platform of the future: an open playing field where anyone can build innovative applications,” he said.

Events According to the AWIA Website, the fourth incarnation of the annual WA Web Awards will be running this year. But wait, there’s more…
Edge of the Web, Perth 2008
The 2008 WAWAs will be held in conjuction with the very exciting Edge of the Web conference, brought to you by AWIA. This November 6 and 7, Perth will be holding its own world-class web design and development conference, with an exciting array of local, national and international speakers.
The web site is up: Edge of the Web 2008 - sign up for the newsletter or grab the RSS feed to be kept up to date on conference and speaker announcements.
More details will be coming soon, but we can reveal that:
- The awards will be open to web sites created by West Australian companies or individuals, launched between July 1, 2007 and June 30, 2008.
- The awards presentation night for the WA Web Awards will be held on November 7, 2008.
