There’s been so much hype about the new 3G iPhone.
I’m one of those types who usually avoid the hype - as much as possible - sit back and watch and wait while others frantically get caught up in the whirlwind. I like to look at a product after it’s been around for a little while, when the initial buzz has died down, and the thing can get looked at with neutral eyes.
So while I’ve yet to personally get my hands on Apple’s new 3G iPhone released in Australia just yet, I’ve been reading a lot of the reviews of them from people that have.
I came across quite an interesting review on the ITNews website over the weekend, and wanted to point it out because it’s picked up on one of the major failings of the iPhone that I have noticed - which a lot of people arn’t considering in their zeal to get the new toy.

There’s been a lot of internet chatter and discussion over the last few weeks about the lack of a R18+ classification for Australia.
Just recently the OFLC refused to classify a new game, Fallout 3, which has caused outrage amongst gamers and libertarians alike. The game was refused a classification because Australia doesn’t have a R18 for gamers - only movies.
That means that any game that would normally be suitable only for adults is completely banned in the country.
In a highly unusual move and due to the amount of pressure that was resulting from an wave of complaints coming in from the gaming and internet community, The Attorney General has released a letter to the gaming community in relation to his refusal to change the laws and allow a R18+ classification for Aussie gamers.
Adobe have decided to offer Aussies the chance to subscribe to their popular and expensive software products, such as Adobe CS3 (Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop, Illusrator, etc).
A discussion was raging on the Port80 forums about how expensive the software is, and how to get it cheaper, when suddenly a representative from Adobe decided to join in on the discussion and tell everyone about the subscription model.
FWIW we Aussies are in a unique position to take advantage of this offer - as it’s initially only being trialed/offered down here in Australia (a dipping the toe in the water so to speak).
The long awaited new iPhone hits stores tomorrow morning with the Perth City Vodafone stores holding iPhone parties from 6am. Those willing can camp out over night and sign their life away first thing tomorrow morning on a long and expensive contract with Vodafone.
The new iPhone smartphone has faster Web links than the first iPhone, supports third-party software like games and is being heavily subsidised by many phone carriers, with some even giving it away to attract new subscribers.
