Overall I found Proactive Sleep to be a very handy app. Basically it tracks your daily sleeping habits and over time provides you with feedback as to whether you are getting the amount of sleep you need or not. What you do is set a daily sleep goal, then each night when you set the alarm it starts recording the amount of time your sleeping. Depending of the amount of sleep you get it will provide you with green, yellow and red feedback. Green means you got the sleep you needed, yellow for when you’re under your goal by an hour and red if you’re more than an hour under. After using this app for a week, you’ll start to get a good idea of how close you are to getting the right amount of sleep you need to function at your best.
The app also has a nice wake-up feature that helps you get out of bed in the morning. It’s a little mental stimulation game that involves touching an image of the sun several times. The game lasts just long enough to make sure you are fully awake. The game performance is also tracked which helps to give you feedback based on how groggy you are on any given morning – which is a good sign you’re not getting enough sleep!
There are settings to have ambient music play while your sleeping, the standard alarm sound is pleasant and not jarring or you can have it play your favourite song as the alarm. So no matter what your sleeping preferences are, you can track them accurately and then by setting goals you can improve your sleep habits and overall health and fitness.
