Australian iTunes & Apple TV Content – We Now Have Movies

iTunesThis weekend saw the release of Australian content for Movies and TV Shows for all the Australian account holders of iTunes and Apple TV.

We’ve been waiting for sometime to catch up with the U.S. and U.K. who have content since last year. At first glance it looks like we’ve been given access to a pretty decent selection of movies, TV shows and other media – but not quite as much as the U.S. version – of course.

Movies are available for purchase from around $25 – a bit harsh considering the U.S. store sells them for around $12-$15.

You can download rental movies for around $5.99 – also around twice as much as the U.S. who get all rentals for just $2.99 or $3.99 for HD versions.

Buying entire “box sets” are pretty pricey – anywhere between $30 and $80 – again, more than double what you would get on the U.S. version of the store.

iTunes TV downloads hit Australia

iTunesAPC Mag is reporting that iTunes has finally started to release downloadable video content through it’s Australian stores.

TV show downloads in iTunes Australia from today, with attractive pricing.

If you’ve had an Apple TV or a video-capable iPod at home since March 2007 and have struggled to find genuine local content for it you’ll be pleased to hear that Apple Australia today introduced TV shows to the Australian iTunes store.

We’ve yet to receive a press release from Apple but if you log on to iTunes you’ll notice a big yellow sign that says ‘TV Shows Just Added’. Clicking the link takes you to the new TV Shows section, where I found 29 different TV shows ranging from international hits like ‘Lost’ to popular local shows like ‘We Can Be Heroes’. Pricing for all TV Shows is $2.99 (compared to US$1.99) and seasons range in price from $65.78 for 22 episodes of ‘Scrubs, Season 6′ to $15.99 for 6 episodes of ‘Sleek Geeks, Season 1′. You’ll note that you get a slight discount when buying some season packs, but not on all.

Apple iTunes Hits 5 Billion Sales

iTunesApple achieved a huge milestone yesterday, announcing that they have now sold more than 5 billion songs through their music program iTunes.

iTunes has also been crowed as the "Number 1 U.S. music retailer" by research firm NPD Group – selling even more music than huge American stores like Walmart and KMart.

Apple have also said that iTunes is renting and selling movies at the rate of around 50,000 each day which makes it the world's most popular online video store.

Users of Apple TV in the states are able to download and rent their movies very easily and then watch them on their big LCD screen – where as Australian users are currently being forced to either open up American accounts to access the content, or just wait until the content comes to Australia – hopefully later this year.
